India Officially Confirms Huawei's Plan to Set Up US$500 Million Plant in Tamil Nadu
October 22, 2010
India's government officials recently revealed that Chinese telecom equipment supplier Huawei will earmark US$500 million for a new plant, to be set up in Tamil Nadu, the Sohu IT News reported on October 20. With an area of 30,000 square meters, the new facility will manufacture telecom equipment to tap growing demand in the Indian market. In early 2010, the Tamil Nadu government predicted that the investment from either Chinese or Korean companies in the state will total US$677 million within two years, generating 10,000 direct or indirect jobs. Huawei mulled building a new plant in India since May 2010, following the ban imposed by the Indian government on telecom equipment products imported from China.
